Inca trail Via Salkantay 5 Days

Experience a hike through Peru’s most breathtaking landscapes and get the most out of your Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. This 5-day hike takes you up to the base of the snow-peaked mountain, Salkantay, one of the most sacred mountains in the region. The hike starts at the base of Salkantay at 3,883 meters or 12,740 feet and brings you down through five ecological zones to Machu Picchu at 2,450 meters or 8,040 feet, giving you the opportunity to pass through mountains, cloud forests, and jungle.

MOLLEPATA – SALKANTAY – LLACTAPATA – MACHUPICCHU

First Day: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa (Breakfast, Dinner)

Pick up from hotel at 5:00 am, board a bus heading toward Mollepata. The trip lasts about three hours, and when we arrive we have a good breakfast to kick off our hike to Cruzpata where we will have one hour’s rest, eat lunch before continuing our walk to Soraypampa (3850m). On this part of the walk we will observe the snowcapped Nevado Humanchay. We will position our first camp in line with the Mountain View, and spend the night and have dinner.

Second Day: Soraypampa – Chaullay (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Early in the morning after a hearty breakfast, we begin our trek toward the Nevado del Salkantay (4550m), the highest point of the entire route. Then we ascend the slopes of Apu Salkantay where we can appreciate the natural beauty and take fantastic pictures. We then descend to reach Chaullay, our second camp, where we will eat dinner and spend the night.

Third Day: Chaullay – Playa Sawayaco – Santa Teresa (Breakfast, Lunch, dinner)

After breakfast we leave Chaullay and head for Collcapampa where we will go through narrow paths abundant in flora and fauna and also see along the way a variety of orchids and waterfalls to finally arrive at Playa Sawayaco where we take a bus 45. Min. bus ride to Santa Teresa (1.650m), we settle our belongings, ttake a short break and then drive about 45km to the Medicinal Baths. Dinner and overnight accommodations in Santa Teresa.

Fourth Day: Santa Teresa –Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes (Breakfast, Lunch)

Rise at 7 am and after a nutritious and delicious breakfast, we will continue our long walk for about two hours until arriving at the River Urubamba where we will cross the bridge of Carrilluchayuc , and continue walking until arriving to the community of Intiwatana, the location of the Hydroelectric station. We will appreciate the different plants and fruits of the region. Then we will board the train to Aguas Calientes (The Town of Machu Picchu) for a trip that lasts about 1 hour. Here we will spend the night in a cozy hotel.
